What is a Pregnancy Center?

Perhaps you’re reading this and you’re concerned you might be pregnant and have no idea where to start with considering what options are available to you. Maybe you’ve found yourself in an unexpected situation where you now have important questions or concerns about pregnancy, contraception, or other very personal and vulnerable topics, but you’re not sure who to ask and feel a bit awkward discussing with your close friends or family.

This is where a pregnancy center might come in. We are here to serve our community by helping women answer difficult questions; offering a safe, judgment-free, and confidential place where you can come with some of your most difficult questions and concerns. We are here to help in those moments.

An Overview of Pregnancy Centers

You may hear a pregnancy center referred to as Pregnancy Resource Centers, Women’s Centers, or other similar names. Regardless of the name, the goal remains the same. These organizations exist to provide support services for women who need help with unexpected or unwanted pregnancies. Pregnancy center services are most often provided at low- or no-cost.

There are upwards of 2,000 pregnancy centers in the United States, some working independently, and many part of a larger network. Some centers are non-medical, offering information, consultation, and resources like free diapers or other material items. Other centers offer medical care and have nurses, doctors, and healthcare providers on staff. Like any organization, each pregnancy resource center may have a different way of operating, can vary in the exact services offered, and will provide you with different experiences depending on many factors.

Who We Are at JMJ

We can’t speak for every pregnancy center, however here at JMJ Pregnancy Center, we aim to assist women of all ages who may have found themselves in either unplanned or unwanted pregnancies or other related situations. Our services have no cost and include:

  • Free pregnancy testing
  • Free Ultrasound
  • Options Consultations
  • Emotional support through pregnancy counseling and support groups
  • Educational resources and classes related to pregnancy, birth, parenting, and more
  • Referrals to medical care and relevant community and public health resources
  • Assistance programs for baby supplies (formula, diapers, clothing, etc.)

Who We Are NOT

We are NOT an OB-GYN or hospital. While we do have a nurse on staff, our services are limited to the pregnancy-related offerings listed above. We do not claim or intend to take the place of a primary medical provider. This being said, we would be happy to refer you to an OB-GYN if you need one.

We are NOT an abortion clinic. We will gladly provide you with facts, information, and answers to any questions you may have about abortion, the abortion pill, and abortion alternatives, but we do not perform or refer women for elective abortions.

We are NOT here to pressure you in any way. There is no hidden agenda here at JMJ. We operate with volunteers, donations, and staff members; some of whom have been impacted by unexpected pregnancy in their pasts as well. We want to be able to care for you and support you during this time. This is why we remain a resource for women in our area.

Abortion and Alternative Options

For a long time, abortion has been a “hot topic” in society. With recent changes in legislature, many women are afraid that options are becoming more and more limited. These stresses paired with the need for a fast solution to a scary circumstance can often lead to panicked decision making. We are here to support you every step of the way.

There are many reasons women choose abortion. They may feel like abortion is the only option because there is no one to help them care for the child. Yes, abortion is an available option; however, it is not the only option. There can be a future for your pregnancy, no matter the circumstance. We are here to help you work through these difficult decisions, however, we are not here to coerce or try to lead you to do something that you do not want to do.

We are Here for You!

Here at JMJ, we want to be a support system that you can trust. We want to provide you with an environment where you feel safe and cared for. We are here to give you the freedom to make a decision that is best for you.

We are here to help in any way that we can. We believe that you do not have to be in this alone.
