Family Planning Information & Resources

Abstinence is the safest and best way to prevent pregnancy is to not have sex. We encourage this practice for a number of reasons.

  1. It is FREE!
  2. It is 100% effective in prevention of pregnancy.
  3. It is 100% effective against transmission of STDs.
  4. It 100% safe because it avoids putting chemicals or foreign objects into a woman’s body.
  5. It empowers women to make healthy life choices and promotes control that can lead to achieving future goals.

For many of our visitors, however, they visit one of our centers because they are sexually active and may already be pregnant. If this sounds like you, we encourage you to call us or stop by one of our centers to be tested so that we can assist you in planning for your future.

Our culture has instilled in society that contraception is synonymous with the word protection when relating to pregnancy. Unfortunately, this falsehood has landed many of visitors into one of our offices. In fact, contraception does not fully “protect” a woman from pregnancy. It also does not “protect” a woman from injury or illness.

There are many contraception options out on the market that consist of but are not limited to having implants, taking pills, shots, patches, drastic surgeries and more that claim to keep women from getting pregnant for those few hours a month. Not only are these options not 100% effective, they also can be extremely dangerous including bodily injury. Many forms of hormonal contraception have Class 1 Carcinogens, which means they cause cancer in addition to the other serious side effects that may even be listed in the fine print. For these reasons, JMJ Pregnancy Center does not encourage any of these options because it does not have the best interest of the woman in mind.

To learn more about contraception and alternatives that avoid these dangers, please contact us for an appointment or stop by one of our centers.

JMJ Pregnancy Center promotes fertility awareness as an alternative to artificial contraception. This concept includes a program called Natural Family Planning or “NFP”. This program promotes a number of methods used to achieve and postpone pregnancy. These methods are based on the observation of naturally occurring signs of the fertile phase of a woman’s fertility cycle. The scientifically proven methods are more effective than other forms of family planning that also avoids the placement of foreign objects or harmful chemicals into a woman’s body!

NFP methods focus on teaching women how to track their signs of fertility and monitor their overall women’s health including symptoms relating to irregular periods, PMS, PCOS, depression, thyroid conditions, mood swings, or a variety of other conditions. Using NFP methods, you can discover health conditions, such as a hormones imbalance, and can see a doctor about treating the cause, not the symptoms. Then, when families are ready to have children, NFP can also help promote conception too! We encourage this form of planning because it empowers women, not restrict or place them in harms way.

To find out more about NFP options, schedule an appointment to meet with one of our advisers.

What is a Chemical Abortion?

It usually involves a 2-step process with the procedure being unsuccessful approximately 5-10% of the time and the potential of requiring an additional surgical abortion procedure to terminate the pregnancy.

  1. The first step involved taking Mifepristone, (aka RU486). This drug blocks the nurturing effects of progesterone, the hormone your body needs to grow a healthy baby which leads to the death of the developing baby.
  2. The second step is taking Misoprostol. Taken orally about 24 to 48 hours after taking the Mifepristone, these tablets will cause contractions and expel the remains of the baby (i.e. inducing labor). This process may take a few hours to as long as a few days.
Reversing the Chemical Abortion

There is a completely safe and effective process out there to reverse the effects and help you maintain the pregnancy. We know this is scary, but we are here to support you.

If you have recently taken Mifepristone (Mifeprex or RU-486) and regret your decision, we can help you. Many women that take the first dose of this chemical abortion change their mind and want to undo the effects. The quicker you start the process, the more likely it will be to work.

The only way to really confirm a pregnancy is to get tested. Below is our process on how we conduct our pregnancy testing. If you think you might be pregnant, call us today and schedule an appointment or walk into any of our clinics during business hours.

Urine-Based Testing

JMJ provides free urine based pregnancy tests free of charge. For best results, we recommend that you wait until at least 6 weeks after your last period to take a test. If the test is positive, we will provide you with a Proof of Positivity form that will be accepted to qualify for Pregnancy Medicaid and a list of resources where you can get the care you need.

Blood Testing

If the test is negative but you think you are pregnant, we can refer you for a free blood test. Since we are not a medical clinic, we do not conduct blood tests on site.

Negative Tests while Pregnant

In cases of a history of negative tests when actually pregnant, JMJ Pregnancy Center will refer those clients to a physician or clinic for further testing.

Qualify for Pregnancy Medicaid

If the test is positive, we will provide you with a Proof of Positivity form that will be accepted to qualify for Pregnancy Medicaid and a list of resources where you can get the care you need.

JMJ Pregnancy Center may provide a limited non-diagnostic ultrasound for clients. Whether or not an ultrasound is offered will be based on the advisors discretion after the client receives a confirmation of pregnancy. This procedure is safe for both mom and baby.

Lifting Lives Program - Family Support

Lifting Lives Logo
The Lifting Lives program is a unique program at JMJ Pregnancy Center to provide support to families facing difficulties during and after pregnancy. The program is designed to provide unconditional love and support and give families hope in the light of darkness. Lifting Lives is a holistic approach to supporting the needs of the family consisting of 4 pillars.
If you need maternity clothing, you can come in any time during your pregnancy and look at what we have on hand. After your baby is born, you can make an appointment to come in for a layette. This layette contains many things, from new outfits to blankets, baby wash to bottles, diapers to sleepers. You may also choose to receive a large item, like a car seat or crib, if needed and available. After the first visit, you can make an appointment to come in for material support once a month, until your child’s first birthday, to receive emergency supplies (like diapers, formula, clothes). Everything we give out comes from donations from the local community and everyone is encouraged to bring items back once their baby grows out of them. We are a network of families helping families.
With each visit, please take a look at our resource list. Since each family’s needs are different, if you would like to sit with an advisor to talk about your situation and what you need, we would love to do that with you. We can help you set goals and find local resources that can help you achieve those goals. Most families are unaware of the wonderful resources that we have in this community and it is usually a matter of taking the time to research and get them in contact with the right people. We have many connections with organizations that help you with things like job searching, budgeting, escaping abuse, childcare assistance, career counseling, post-abortion recovery and much more.
As we have grown, we have found a need for individual and group classes to help families that visit us. Please call your local center to find more information about when classes are being offered. We are developing more programs based on the needs we see in our centers and we are always looking for people willing to donate time to teach/mentor our families.
We also have professionals that volunteer services for our clients. We have had licensed mental health counselors, doctors, attorneys, midwives, business owners, etc. that volunteer their services to help our clients in many ways. If you have a situation that may require the help of a professional, we will help connect you with people that we know and trust.
